Graham Layton Trust (GLT) celebrated 32 years of service to the poorest citizens of Pakistan, with a fundraising Gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in Park Lane, London. The event achieved its target of equipping the paediatric unit of our teaching hospital in Karachi, with a sensitive visualisation tool to diagnose, monitor and plan the eye treatment of babies.
Lord Michael Dobbs, patron of GLT (author of House of Cards) opened the Gala; the Chairman, Mian Ershad Zaheen welcomed the guests and Art Malik, the charismatic stage and screen actor compered the glittering evening. Lord Jeffrey Archer conducted the auction and raised generous donations from the 230 guests present. The family of the renowned artist, Anwar Shemza donated an elegant, abstract work, ‘Untitled’, from 1958 and works by other well-known European and Pakistani artists were also auctioned. Faraz Manan’s sumptuous Viceroy collection provided all the opulence and elegance of haute couture.
The motto of the charity is ‘Restoring sight, transforming lives’ and the funds raised will save the sight and bring light to the lives of thousands in Pakistan.
We thank everyone for a memorable evening.
