Manchester Iftar - A Wonderful Evening

The Graham Layton Trust hosted its first Iftar Dinner at the Vermilion on Saturday 18th May 2019. Guests were welcomed with a Reception, before entering the Ballroom for entertainment, speeches and a live auction ahead of a sumptuous Iftar dinner.

Trustee Art Malik welcomed guests and introduced the host for the evening Islah Abdur-Rahman. Chairman Mian Ershad Zaheen provided a brief history of the charity to date, and Consultant Ophthalmologist Ms Rahila Zakir challenged guests to experience visual impairment through the use of vision simulation glasses.

The evening's entertainment included a fabulous performance from artist Shahid Khan who sang 'Allah Hoo' and other well known nausheeds. There was also the opportunity to bid for exquisite art work, an Umrah package and a stunning sculpture in the evening's auction, conducted by Ajmal Masroor.

Through live video link, Trustee Nusrat Mirza spoke to Fatima about her corneal transplant surgery and the impact it had on her life. This special moment in the evening gave guests a chance to meet one of our patients and see for themselves, how they help change lives.

A wonderful and successful evening with many thanks to our guests who contributed generously to the cause.
