Graham Layton Trust (GLT) was founded in the same year (1984) as the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT) itself in order to provide crucial financial support from the outset. While our partner LRBT manages the operational process, GLT focuses on raising awareness, building the campaign and growing financial support for LRBT.
GLT and LRBT work closely together to ensure fundraising efforts are linked to the needs of the hospitals and patients in Pakistan.
One of the most striking aspects of the LRBT facilities is their simplicity and orderliness. It is common to see chaos in public services in South Asia, but the effective system used at the hospitals ensures that the majority of those admitted are treated the same day. As the focus of the hospitals is treating curable eye diseases only, LRBT has achievable targets that provides significant impact on the life of the patients within days.
LRBT hospitals and medical staff have an internationally renowned reputation for quality of service and impact on community. The equipment used in the hospitals is internationally recognised as state-of-the-art, reflecting the determination of the founders to provide first-class treatment to all. Indeed as medical staff move on from LRBT to other medical institutions and as more patients visit LRBT facilities, pressure grows across the country to raise the standards of hospitals and medical care for all Pakistanis to match LRBT’s example.
The same level of care and attention is available to all patients, rich and poor, young and old, men, women and children on a first come first serve basis. There is no discrimination on grounds of religion, gender, class or ethnicity – free diagnosis and treatment is available for all.
