VOLUNTEER RAISES £2400 for GLT! Basak Kotler has raised £2,400 for the Graham Layton Trust, in aid of free eye care for the poor in Pakistan! ‘Well-done!’ and a big ‘THANK YOU’ to Basak! Here’s how she did it:
“I recently completed the YORKSHIRE THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE, climbing Ingleborough, Pen-y-Gent and Whernside, in one day. The route is 24 miles long, starting in Chapel-le-Dale. The cumulative elevation is 5,200 feet, so it’s like climbing about 500 floors of a building!
The weather wasn’t kind to us, with rain and wind for the first six hours, making the ground muddy and the rocks slippery for most of the way. After about seven hours of trekking under these conditions, a conversation started between my body and my mind, urging me to stop and give my muscles and my lungs a break.
At that point, the only thing that keeps you going is sheer willpower and mine came from two sources: the friends I was walking with and the promise I had made to all the people who had supported my selected charity, the Graham Layton Trust.
I finished the challenge in 11 hours and 13 minutes with an amazing sense of accomplishment. I tried something totally new, enjoyed many great moments and raised £2,400 for the GLT. I am grateful for the experience.
I hope more people will become interested in doing similar activities to raise funds.”
