The Graham Layton Trust (GLT) Annual Gala Dinner & Auction 2013 took place at the Dorchester Hotel, London on 20th September to raise funds for its sister charity, the Layton Rahmatullah Benevolent Fund (LBRT).
The Rt. Hon the Viscount Slim, Patron GLT, spoke on the night, reminding people of the tremendous good that the charity is doing by allowing Pakistani people with eye ailments in even the most rural regions of the country to get the treatment required to carry on living a life free from darkness. Lord Slim himself was born in Quetta and spoke proudly of his Pakistani heritage.
Saqib Hameed, Chairman LRBT, also spoke about the vital need for funds in order to continue the valuable work the charity is doing in Pakistan by providing absolutely free eye-care to those who cannot afford it; the annual operating costs of a new eye hospital that was recently opened in Odigram, Swat in October will be £130,000 alone.
The auction was one of the most successful in our short history, raising a grand total of £46,000, thanks to our superb auctioneer Lord Jeffrey Archer. Items donated for the auction included business class tickets to Vietnam with Etihad airways, rental of the Aston Martin Rapide, and a weekend stay at the Dorchester Hotel.
The event raised not less than £130,000 for the charity, which is a fantastic achievement. A big thank you to our generous donors, volunteers and sponsors without which we would not be able to raise these funds.
