Earthquake Relief Update

Progress to date

After the tragic earthquake of October 8, 2005, the Graham Layton Trust (GLT) and the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT) were quick to realize the danger of a “disaster within the disaster”. Despite the best efforts of the authorities, with relief supplies clogging the airfields and highways, the actual delivery of aid on the ground was not as effective as it needed to be. The two charities’ priority was therefore to start getting to work on the ground as soon as possible.

LRBT and GLT divided their earthquake relief effort into 3 phases:

Phase 1: Helping the Injured
Phase 2a: Providing Shelter
Phase 2b: Interim Eye Care
Phase 3: Permanent Eye Care
